Protected Crop techniques evaluated and developed in Venezuela

In an articulation between producers, academia, private companies and State institutions, the first National Meeting on Protected Crops began, at an event organized by the Bolivarian Government in La Flor de Venezuela, located in the state of Lara, with the objective of learning about the advances in technification in the management of protected crops in order to guarantee the country's Agrifood Sovereignty.

In this regard, Jhoanna Carrillo, head of the Ministry of the People's Power of Urban Agriculture (MINPPAU) stated that the Meeting was set up with an extraordinary work team to talk about the challenges of food production under the modality of protected crops.

He explained that during the event, a series of papers were developed on the challenges of pest management and the modalities of protected crops.

He said that Venezuela has a great challenge in improving technification for pest management within protected crops. He said that another of the country's great challenges is the organization so that crops are increasingly sustainable, sustainable and profitable.

“It is part of what we are talking about in this challenging dynamic, because one of the challenges facing the world for the year 2050, and among them there is no escape from Venezuela, and that is why as a Government we have the challenge of supporting producers, organizations, business suppliers, who manage protected crops,” said the Minister.

He said that in the year 2050 the world will have approximately 9.7 billion inhabitants, which will generate a strong demand for food, so protected crops must be part of the guarantee of food sovereignty and security.

For her part, Yarixa Goyo, a university professor and worker at the company Insubiol, C.A. said she is participating in this Meeting to explain about the microbiolization of protected crops, the importance of microorganisms in the health of the crop, the environment and the consumer.

“That's why we're holding a gala at this Flower of Venezuela, at this meeting, since there are academics, private companies and producers, all working for the sustainability of protected crops and also for the food sovereignty of our country,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ali Olivero, representative of Verde en Concreto, pointed out that this type of event is required to exchange ideas, learn and to further enrich their knowledge, in food production. He also took the opportunity to express a few words of thanks to the Ministry of Urban Agriculture for allowing them to participate in the Meeting.

“Whether agriculture is extensive or urban, we must have more knowledge and more tools to increase our production and be better with the environment every day.”

It is important to highlight that during the event, different forums and presentations were held related to the production of food from protected crops, including: Climate Management under Protected Environments; Principles for Disease Management in Protected Crops; Good Practices for the Management of Organic Fertilizers and Fertilizers in Protected Environments, Risks and Benefits; Certified Seeds for Protected Crops and Sustainable Pest Management in Smart Protected Agriculture.

Also, within the Nutrition Forum there is the paper: Data and its Impact on Agriculture in Controlled Environments; Intelligent Management for Advanced Plant Nutrition and Microelements, The Success of Balanced Nutrition, while within the Genetics Forum they presented the papers: Manofertilizer “New Nutritional Technologies”; the Importance and Mechanisms of Seed Certification in Venezuela; New Versions of Vegetables under Protected Environments and at the Economy Forum the papers were developed: Obstacles in International Trade; Potentialities of the Puerto Seco GDL Jacinto Lara Intermodal Terminal.
