Puerto Rican social movements, including artists and activists, are preparing for a demonstration in front of Plaza Las Américas, to denounce the rejection of the management of LUMA Energy, Genera PR and New Fortress Energy, who are responsible for the energy crisis affecting the island, characterized by service failures and increases in electricity bills.
The protests are driven by the group The Promises Run Out, who described contracts with these companies as fraudulent and directly responsible for the deterioration in the quality of electricity service.
The main rejection is directed at LUMA Energy, as the demonstrators point out their non-compliance with the promise to improve the service and lower the bill, despite being committed by contract.
The demonstrators explain that, on the contrary, there have been multiple increases in the bill that strangle the family and small business budgets, in addition to constant blackouts and power fluctuations that damage appliances, set fire to homes and cause transformers to explode.
