The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, gave a speech this Sunday during the plenary session of the 17th BRICS Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he noted that the group “has expanded significantly and includes the main States of Eurasia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.”

“The authority and influence of our association in the world are growing year after year. The BRICS have rightfully established themselves as one of the key centers of global governance,” said the president.

He stressed that the member countries of the block together have “enormous political, economic, scientific, technological and human potential”, so he indicated that the BRICS concentrate “not only a third of the Earth's surface and almost half of the planet's population, but also 40% of the world economy.”

The Russian leader also specified that the BRICS combined Gross Domestic Product by purchasing power parity has already reached 77 trillion dollars, according to IMF data for 2025. “By the way, according to this indicator, the BRICS significantly outperform other associations, including the G7,” where this index for the same period amounts to 57 trillion dollars, he added.
