Russia assured that NATO is an instrument of aggression and confrontation

This Monday, the Russian Federation accused the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) of being an instrument of aggression and confrontation, in rejection of the proposal of Mark Rutte, Secretary General of the Western Bloc, to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP.

Dmitri Peskov, presidential spokesperson for the Kremlin, said that “now, the Atlantic Alliance, taking off all its masks, demonstrates in every possible way its essence as an instrument of aggression and confrontation.”

NATO is not an instrument for maintaining stability and security on the continent, but an instrument created for confrontation, whose essence had been kept hidden. Now, it reveals its true nature.

The Russian government spokesman questioned that “European taxpayers are spending their money to combat a threat that, he says, comes from our country. It's just an illusory threat.”

In this regard, he warned that in one way or another, Russia will have to respond to such expansionist and aggressive actions by NATO and member countries, which are well known to us, since they are very close to our borders (Finland and Sweden).
