The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, reaffirmed that his country seeks to achieve a peaceful solution to the conflict with Ukraine, and insisted that this must be a lasting peace, built on solid foundations, that addresses the root causes of differences and that guarantees the security of Moscow and Kiev.

“I will repeat it once again: we need a lasting and long-term peace, based on solid foundations, that will satisfy both Russia and Ukraine and guarantee the security of both countries,” said the Russian leader.

Putin positively assessed the recent advances in the dialogue process taking place in the Turkish city of Istanbul, as well as the exchanges of prisoners between the parties.

He also stressed that Moscow handed over to Ukraine the remains of thousands of fallen soldiers, receiving in exchange the bodies of dozens of Russian soldiers. In his opinion, these types of humanitarian gestures represent significant advances in the midst of the current conflict.
