During the Security Council of the United Nations (UN), the permanent representative of Russia to the UN, Vasili Nebenzia, stressed that Venezuela is a sovereign state that for months has been the subject of threats of military invasion and requested an immediate stop to the escalation of tensions with Venezuela.

He emphasized that the threat has worsened over the days because kilometers off the coast of Venezuela there is military activity on the part of the United States, which is a direct threat to regional and international peace and security.

During the execution of an emergency meeting, which Venezuela requested, the Russian representative noted that there are probably colleagues who say that they are not threatening anyone and that it is a fight against drug trafficking.

In that regard, he asked to evaluate the version that Washington is promoting of the “fight against drug trafficking”, to justify the threat. “Since August of this year, the United States began to concentrate military troops in the southern Caribbean and there were 3 combat planes near the coast of Venezuela, together with a nuclear submarine, the total number of the contingent is more than 4,000 people,” he recalled.

Nebenzia asked if it's about preparing for an invasion? or a normal deployment?. “Venezuela has every reason to believe that its neighbor to the north is willing

“He wants us to believe in the existence of the Cartel of the Suns, which is going to transfer tons of drugs from the Americas to the United States. Let's remember that Venezuela is not on the list among the countries that import drugs,” he said.

He emphasized that the alleged Cartel of the Suns is not mentioned at all in the report presented by the UN. “We can't believe then that only the United States State Department learned about this threat just a few months ago, that's hard to believe,” he added.
