Russia thwarted terrorist attack against a military high command in St. Petersburg

The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) announced that it had thwarted a terrorist attack in St. Petersburg directed against a senior military commander of the Ministry of Defense.

The agency indicated in a statement that two Russian citizens were involved in illegal activities and had planned the attack “of a terrorist nature” on behalf of the special services of Ukraine, using a home-made explosive device

According to the report, the arrests were made after investigative operations in which the suspects were communicating with a supervisor through the Telegram application.

Following the instructions received, those involved removed the improvised explosive device from its hiding place, located the target's address of residence and installed the device under the vehicle of a Russian soldier.

Authorities say that as a result of the operational measures, the device was located and deactivated before it could be used.
