The second phase of the “Miranda Play Traditional” festival began in the Historic Center of Petare, Sucre municipality in the state of Miranda, with a day dedicated to the promotion of traditional games and the production of toys with recyclable materials.

The activity brought together 300 participants from the Antonio José de Sucre Commune, including 230 boys and girls, who made toys such as gurrumangos, perinoles and parrots from useful materials, according to a note from Venezolana de Televisión.

The launch was attended by the Deputy Minister of Culture, Gabriela Simoza; the Director of Culture of the Sucre municipality, Patricia Muñóz; and the president of the Culture Committee of the Municipal Council, Ronald Aramburo, as well as students and teachers from the educational units Julio Garmendia and Dr. José de Jesús Arocha.

“We want Miranda to be the epicenter of traditional games in the country with this festival that is starting today,” said Simoza, who stressed that the initiative seeks to strengthen cultural identity and promote recreational alternatives to the excessive use of digital devices.

The program was also developed simultaneously on Lamas Boulevard in the Guaicaipura municipality and at the Valle Arriba State School in the Zamora municipality. The festival will soon continue along the axes of Urdaneta, Cristóbal Rojas, Acevedo, Brión and Páez.

The initiative is promoted by the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture, the Cultural Mission Foundation and the Government of Miranda, as a prelude to a simultaneous mega-day scheduled for next June 6 throughout the entity.
