On behalf of the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Deputy Minister for Africa of the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yuri Pimentel, accompanied Ambassador Lindiwe Michelle Maseko this Monday at the wreath ceremony before the sarcophagus of the Liberator Simon Bolivar on the occasion of the commemoration of South Africa's National Freedom Day.

The protocol activity, at the Mausoleum of the Liberator in the National Pantheon, was attended by representatives of the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Caracas and officials from the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.

The program included the intonation of the national anthems of both countries and the signing of the book, by the authorities, which records the performance of the ceremony.

Every April 27, the Republic of South Africa commemorates Freedom Day, in connection with the first democratic elections in 1994, which announced the official end of racial segregation and the oppression of apartheid, one of the most opprobious regimes in human history, a legacy of colonialism.

In the context of bilateral relations, on April 14, the first meeting of the Political Consultation Mechanism between the two countries was held in Pretoria, chaired by Deputy Minister Pimentel and the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, Alvin Botes.
