As a result of a joint effort between popular power and the government of the state of Zulia, the ophthalmological center was inaugurated in the Punto Fijo neighborhood of the Romulo Betancourt parish in the municipality of Cabimas.
This is the Hugo Chávez Socialist Commune, whose members decided to name the office after Miguel Lara, a recently deceased community leader.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Minister of Popular Power for the Communes, Ángel Prado, who explained that the center “is one of the 4,500 community projects that will be inaugurated in the country before the first National Popular Consultation of 2026, convened for March 8 by the president in charge Delcy Rodríguez, complying with the method proposed by President Nicolás Maduro of executing a large part of the nation's budget with the Power Popular, and here we see it materialized.”
The ophthalmological center has the capacity to serve the population of Cabimas and four other municipalities on the Eastern Shore of Lake Maracaibo and is equipped with high-tech medical equipment for cataract surgery and other pathologies, details a regional press release.
