Students and union leaders took to the streets of the French Republic this Tuesday, October 6, during a day of national strike, demanding immediate solutions to the shortage of teachers, school overcrowding, the deterioration of infrastructure and the failures in the university platform “Parcoursup”.

The escalation of tensions in the demonstrations leaves 6,000 arrested and nearly 1,000 injured, including a child under 15, which prompted complaints from human rights organizations and judicial sectors about the disproportionate use of force by security agencies.

Despite the fact that the Executive promised to fill vacancies in the teaching sector and repair school infrastructure, mobilization remains active in various parts of the country. The student union La Force Lycéenne publicly stated that “we will not give up, regardless of the repression and regardless of the Government's attempts to misinform public opinion.”

The convening organizations reiterated that they will continue their protest actions in defense of public and quality education, urging the Government to respond in a concrete way to the demands of working people and student youth.
