This Saturday, the 2026 sugar cane harvest formally began in the state of Lara, in a strategic alliance between Azucarera Rio Turbio and the Las Nieves packaging company, a union that plans to consolidate the domestic market this year.

According to a press release from Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), the planning for this season estimates the processing of 140,000 tons of sugar cane, which will result in a final production of 9,800 tons of refined sugar destined directly for the people's consumption.

The Workers' Productive Council (CPT) highlighted that since 2019 they have led a process of internal transformation to adapt to a new productive reality, worker management that has been key to generating more than 300 direct jobs, boosting more than a thousand indirect jobs and reactivating economic dynamics in the town.

The mayor of the Palavecino municipality, Derby Guedez, accompanied the start of the activities and highlighted the work of the workforce, stressing that this day “marks the full activation of sugar milling and the definitive consolidation of the recovery of the agro-industrial unit in his town”.
