The International Olympic Committee (IOC) accuses Russia of “politicizing sport” with the Friendship Games and asks the governments invited to “reject all participation and support” for this new event.

“The IOC urges all stakeholders in the Olympic Movement and all Governments to reject any participation and support for any initiative that seeks to fully politicize international sport.”

On the other hand, the IOC accuses Moscow of “a total lack of respect for global anti-doping regulations and the integrity of competitions”, recalling the concerns raised by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regarding the Friendship Games, because the Russian Anti-Doping Agency is not currently subject to the World Anti-Doping Code and that “there is currently no laboratory accredited by AMA in Russia,” France24 reports.

The first Friendship Games (summer) are scheduled from September 15 to 29 of this year, in Russian cities, Moscow and Yekaterinburg.
