The National Risk Management System (SNGR) deployed a special rescue operation to assist 45 tourists in Lara state.
The seasonal workers, who traveled from Barquisimeto, Caracas and Valencia, were trapped in the lower part of the Cascada del Vino de Lara resort, as a result of a landslide that blocked access to Dinira National Park, after heavy rains in the state.
The maneuvers of the officials allowed the road to be cleared so that people could leave the tourist attraction by land.
Through an articulated effort between the community, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), the National Park Institute (INPARQUES) and the Mayor's Office of Morán, the crews removed rock material and sediments, so that traffic in the area returned to normal in a short time.
The director of Civil Protection in Lara, Luis Mujica, confirmed that the clearing of the route made it easier for two public transport units to leave safely.
“The two public transport units that were in the lower part of the resort managed to leave, in the same way, their passengers without any news. It is already completely clear, the buses left without news. The team remains alert, making other discharges in the area of other sediments that have been generated as a result of these events,” he said.
Currently, safety and rescue teams remain alert in the sector to attend to other points on the road with an accumulation of debris. Authorities urge people to take precautions during the rainy season in national parks.
