As reported by The Times of Israel, this Sunday, October 19, the ceasefire ended after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out air strikes in the southern Gaza Strip.
This new wave of attacks, coordinated by the IDF's southern command, targets the positions of the Hamas movement in the Palestinian enclave. This action comes after the break of the ceasefire by Hamas.
A military source consulted by The Times of Israel revealed that one of the targets of the attack is a network of tunnels that would have been used by the Palestinian group to hold Israeli hostages. Some Palestinian media have published images showing the attacks in the Khan Younis area.
An IDF spokesman specified that Hamas militants launched anti-tank missiles and opened fire on Israeli soldiers operating to destroy the group 's infrastructure in the Rafa area. In response, the Israeli Army carried out air strikes and artillery shelling in the area to neutralize the aggressors.
In addition, the authorities of the Gaza Strip reported on Saturday that the IDF violated the ceasefire 47 times, causing 38 deaths and 143 injuries, the international agency Sputnik reported.
The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, ordered that “strong measures” be taken against several positions in Gaza following the violation of the ceasefire by Hamas. The measure was taken after Netanyahu “held a consultation with his defense minister and the heads of the security apparatus.”
