This Wednesday, the conclave to elect the successor of the late Pope Francis began with a mass at which the 133 cardinal electors met before locking themselves in the Sistine Chapel to begin voting.
With the beginning of the election process, the mass 'Pro Elegiendo Pontifice' (For the election of a pope) was celebrated in St. Peter's Basilica of the Vatican presided over by the cardinal dean, Giovanni Battista Re.
Later, the expression 'Extra ommes' (All out) was uttered and then the cardinals took the oath of secrecy.
It is known that in the afternoon, the 133 cardinals with the right to vote, because they were under 80 years old, were summoned at 16.15 local time to the Pauline Chapel of the Apostolic Palace.
