This Friday, after approximately two hours of meeting, in Türkiye, the delegations of Ukraine and the Russian Federation concluded their first direct meeting since 2022 to try to find a negotiated solution to the conflict.

The Russian delegation informed the press that the meeting took place with representatives of Kiev and that it was held this Friday in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Vladimir Medinsky, leader of the Russian delegation, stressed, according to information published by Russia Today (RT), that “in general, we are satisfied with the result and willing to continue the contact. What have we agreed on? First. In the coming days, a large scale prisoner exchange will take place, (in the format of) one thousand by one thousand.”

Secondly, he stressed that the Ukrainian side has requested direct talks between heads of state. We have taken this request into account.

“We have agreed that each party will present their vision of a possible future ceasefire and state it in detail. Once this vision has been presented, we believe that it would be appropriate if we also agreed to continue our negotiations,” Medinski said in third place.

For Ukraine, the Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, attended as head of the delegation; the Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergiy Kyslytsya; the Deputy Chief of the Security Services, Oleksander Poklad, and the Deputy Head of the Espionage Services, Oleg Lugovsk.

According to information highlighted by the Russian news agency TASS, both delegations have not yet decided whether to resume negotiations after what it also describes as a pause.
