The results of the municipal elections held this Sunday confirm the continuity of the left-wing block in the main urban centers of France, while right-wing forces and nationalist movements made significant progress in smaller towns.
The political map of large cities remains mostly under socialist management, in Paris Emmanuel Grégoire (PS) prevailed against Rachida Dati. After his victory, Grégoire stressed that the capital has chosen to continue the project led by socialism over the past few decades.
In Marseille, the current mayor, Benoît Payan, won re-election after a second round marked by the polarization of support and the retreat of the conservative bloc.
While in Le Havre, in the center-right spectrum, former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe confirmed his territorial leadership by once again securing the mayor's office.
After the commissions, it has been established that the country is divided into very defined blocks of influence: the main cities aligned with traditional progressivism and the rural or peripheral areas showing an openness to nationalist proposals or to profound change.
