The New York Times revealed that Ismail Haniya, leader of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS), was killed with an explosive device that had been secretly introduced into the building a few months ago.

According to five Middle Eastern officials cited by the media, about two months ago the device had been hidden in the house, located in the north of the Iranian capital, details Russia Today (RT) in a quote from the North American media.

As a result, the bomb was detonated remotely as soon as it was confirmed that Haniya was there. The explosion shook the building, shattered windows and caused the partial collapse of an outer wall.

It was previously speculated that the murder was carried out through a “missile attack, possibly fired from a drone or an airplane,” the newspaper notes.

The leader of Hamas was in the Islamic Republic of Iran to participate in the inauguration of the elected president, Masoud Pezeshkian, which was held the day before.
