The delegations of the People's Republic of China and the United States (USA) held a productive meeting in Paris on economic and trade issues of mutual interest, including tariff arrangements, promotion of bilateral trade and investment, and the maintenance of the existing consultation consensus.
During the talks, guided by the consensus reached by the heads of state Xi Jinping and Donald Trump, the delegates reached new consensus and agreed to continue the consultations under the strategic guidance of important common understandings.
After five rounds of economic and trade consultations held last year, China and the United States have achieved a series of results in the economic and trade spheres, said Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng.
In this regard, the round of economic and trade talks between China and the United States with the Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, and the US Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer, proved successful.
These results project greater certainty and stability to bilateral economic and trade relations, as well as to the world economy, said He, according to information reported by Telesur.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the tariffs imposed by the U.S. government under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act are illegal, said He, indicating that as a result, the U.S. side imposed an additional 10% surcharge on imports from all of its trading partners under section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974.
Finally, the two sides agreed to study the establishment of a cooperation mechanism to promote bilateral trade and investment, to continue to make good use of the mechanism of economic and trade consultation between China and the United States, to strengthen dialogue and communication, to properly manage differences, to expand practical cooperation and to promote the sustained, stable and solid development of bilateral economic and trade relations.
