At 04:00 this afternoon, the polls were officially closed in Colombia and from that moment on, the electoral jury began the phase that will allow the country to know if Casa de Nariño has a new tenant for the next four years in the first round or if the decision will be extended to June 21.
According to the country's electoral regulations, this stage of the election begins with the verification of electoral material and the destruction of unused cards, a measure that seeks to avoid irregularities.
The next step is to start manually counting the votes table by table, recording the results on the official forms known as E-14, which serve as a basis for the transmission of information and which can be consulted on the official website of the National Registry of Civil Status.
The final results of this first round are estimated to be released by the authorities at approximately 6:30 in the afternoon, when a clear picture of voting behavior could already be obtained.
More than 41.4 million Colombian citizens were eligible to participate in this Sunday's elections in Colombia. The person who is elected will assume the leadership of the Government from Casa de Nariño between August 7, 2026 and August 7, 2030, during which period he will be responsible for the direction of economic policy, security, international relations and the execution of the main government programs.
