The Tiburones de La Guaira put an end to the uncertainty and officially announced Gregorio Petit as their new manager for the next season of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP). With this designation, the Guairian team joins Cardenales de Lara, Bravos de Margarita, Águilas del Zulia, Caribes de Anzoátegui and Navegantes del Magallanes as franchises with confirmed strategies for the next tournament.
Petit, a native of Ocumare del Tuy, began his first experience as a manager in the LVBP after a career in the United States Minor Leagues. His leadership career began in 2021 with the Corpus Christi Hooks (Double-A of the Houston Astros), where he showed progress year after year. In 2023, he joined the Oakland Athletics, where he led in Class-A before being promoted to Double-A in 2024, leading the Midland RockHounds to an impressive 84-54 record and leading them to the final of their league.
Currently, Petit is still in charge of the RockHounds in the Texas League, where they maintain a competitive performance (15-14) in the Southern Division. His arrival in Los Tiburones represents a key challenge in his career, where he takes on the leadership of a team in Venezuelan professional baseball for the first time.
The school fans hope that Petit, known for his winning mentality and ability to develop talent, will be able to lead the team to the top in the 2025-2026 season. His appointment marks the beginning of a new phase for the franchise, which will seek to improve its performance after an irregular campaign in the last tournament.
