This Sunday, March 2, at the Nuestra Señora del Carmen Church, the town of El Callao, in the state of Bolívar, celebrated the traditional Misa de las Madamas, as part of the celebration of carnivals 2025.
According to information from Venezolana de Televisión, this tradition dates back more than 30 years and formalizes the arrival of carnival in the city.
One of the area's cultors indicated that this tradition was formed based on a request to ask for forgiveness, which are considered by the Catholic religion as a sin and protection is asked for during those days of carnival.
The Misa de las Madamas has been a tradition since 1986. The story goes that Father Fajardo accepted the request and suggested that women attend mass in their madama dress, a day that marked the beginning of this beautiful tradition, which brings together thousands of people every year.
