Thick smoke still engulfs Bursa, the fourth largest city in Türkiye, due to forest fires that also forced more than 3,500 people to evacuate their homes over the weekend.
High temperatures, strong winds and dryness have intensified the fires, with Türkiye and other parts of the eastern Mediterranean experiencing record heat waves, details Hispantv.
The death toll has risen to 17 since the end of June, including 10 rescue volunteers and forest workers who died last Wednesday in a fire in the northwestern city of Eskisehir.
Türkiye battled at least 44 different fires on Sunday, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli said. He identified two fires in Bursa province, as well as fires in Karabük, in the northwest, and in Kahramanmaraş, in the south, as the most serious.
