Türkiye recorded a magnitude 6.2 earthquake in the Sea of Marmara

This Wednesday, in Türkiye, the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 that affected the city of Istanbul and soon after, other weaker earthquakes, of magnitude 4.4, were observed.
Authorities from the Ministry of the Interior of Türkiye reported: “An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred in the Sea of Marmara, in Silivri”
“The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority and our other agencies, all teams, started working on the ground because of the earthquake, which was also felt in neighboring provinces,” the statement said.
The AFAD indicated that the earthquake occurred at 12.49 local time in Türkiye with the epicenter at a depth of 6.9 kilometers in the geological fault that crosses the Sea of Marmara, about twenty kilometers south of the Silivri district, corresponding to a distance of about 60 kilometers from the historic center of Istanbul.
