The Turkish Ministry of Commerce announced Tuesday that it will suspend shipping to Israel items in 54 categories that include iron and steel products, jet fuel, construction equipment, machines, cement, granite, chemicals, pesticides and bricks.
“Israel continues to flagrantly violate international law and ignores the international community,” a statement said. “This decision will remain in effect until Israel declares an immediate ceasefire and allows an adequate and uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.”
Türkiye made the decision to impose restrictions on exports to Israel after the Israeli government refused to allow it to launch aid from the air over besieged and bombed territory.
More than 33,000 people have died in Israel's six-month war against Gaza, according to Palestinian health officials, and many countries expressed outrage at the number of fatalities and the humanitarian crisis stemming from the Israeli attacks and siege.
Israel launched its assault in response to Hamas-led attacks against Israel on October 7, in which 1,139 people died, according to an Al Jazeera tally based on Israeli statistics.
“We will continue to support our Palestinian brothers and sisters until the bloodshed in Gaza stops and they live in a free Palestine, with Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders,” said the president of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Tuesday.
