The Ministry of Health of Uganda confirmed this Monday, May 25, in Kampala, the detection of two new cases of Ebola, bringing to seven the total number of suspected infections linked to the outbreak that originated in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

These patients, who are health workers in a private health center, have been isolated for specialized care after presenting symptoms associated with the Bundibugyo virus.

The confirmation of these cases underlines the complexity of the health emergency, which was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Importance by the World Health Organization on May 16.

Ugandan authorities are working intensively to contain the spread, maintaining strict vigilance following reports of previous infections detected over the weekend.

As part of the response protocol, the director general of the health service, Charles Olaro, reported that all contacts identified in relation to these patients have already been registered. The main objective of health teams is to ensure exhaustive monitoring to cut transmission chains and prevent an uncontrolled spread of the virus in densely populated urban areas.

In view of the evolution of this epidemiological situation, the Ministry of Health has urged the population to remain calm but to act responsibly. Citizens are urged to immediately report to healthcare centers any symptoms compatible with the disease, such as fever, muscle aches or bleeding, to facilitate timely medical intervention.
