Last Tuesday, the Office of the United Nations (UN) for Migration reported that around 50,000 people have been displaced in central Haiti in recent weeks due to the increase in gang violence on the outskirts of the capital Port-au-Prince.

In Haiti, victims are caused by the violence of criminal groups, accused of homicides, rapes, thefts and kidnappings in a scenario of political instability.

On March 31, criminal groups attacked areas of the Centre department, mainly Saut-d'Eau and Mirebalais, located approximately 50 km from the capital. The attack was aimed at the police station and the jail, freeing 529 arrested.

From that attack to April 16, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) documents the transfer of 51,466 people, and most of the refugees now with family members, the organization said on Tuesday.
