The Undersecretary General of the United Nations (UN), Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, denounced that the Israeli military occupation north of the Blue Line constitutes a direct violation of Security Council resolution 1701. During an emergency session, he described the situation as profoundly alarming due to the intensification of hostilities in southern Lebanon, the Bekah Valley and the outskirts of Beirut.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) registered a critical increase in military activity in the border area. On May 30, 992 projectile trajectories were recorded, marking the highest volume of fire detected since the ceasefire agreement was reached last April.

The human impact of this conflict has reached devastating numbers since March. According to data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 3,412 people have been killed and more than 10,000 injured. Added to this balance are the victims recorded both in Israeli territory and among the personnel of the blue helmets deployed in the region.

In the political sphere, while the Lebanese Government indicated that Hezbollah would agree to stop its attacks if the offensive in Beirut ceases, the UN reiterated its demand for disarmament for the group and all armed factions. The organization stresses that the local army must consolidate itself as the only legitimate and sovereign force in the country.

Currently, negotiations are taking place in a scenario of great diplomatic complexity. Hezbollah has conditioned the success of any peace pact on the total vacancy of the territories recently taken by Israeli forces, while the international community tries to stop the escalation before the humanitarian crisis deepens further.
