The United Nations (UN) expressed concern about the Israeli Army's attack on the headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting Company (IRIB), amid growing regional tension.
Farhan Haq, the agency's deputy spokesperson, said on Monday that the UN is “concerned about any attack against journalists carrying out their work anywhere,” reiterating its condemnation of such actions that compromise information work.
The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baqai, described the offensive as a war crime and demanded that the UN Security Council take immediate steps to stop Israel and prevent the repetition of aggression against the Iranian people.
The Iranian Broadcasting Corporation (IRIB) returned to normal live broadcasting, minutes after the attack took place
The director of the Iranian Broadcasting Organization has issued a statement, after the compound he leads was attacked by Israel.
“To the honorable people of Iran: a few minutes ago, the Iranian Broadcasting Organization was brutally attacked by the Zionist enemy. This attack demonstrates the precision with which national media attack the strategic depth of enemy media,” said Peyman Yebeli.
“According to preliminary data, several employees have been injured. In the first moments (of the attack), most of the people managed to evacuate the building,” said the deputy director of Iranian broadcasting, Hassan Abedini.
