The special rapporteur of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council for Palestine, Francesca Albanese, assured that the Zionist government of Israel and its leaders must be sanctioned and prosecuted for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the execution of genocides against the Palestinian people in the territories occupied by settlers.

During a press conference in Bogotá, Colombia, Albanese in the framework of the International Emergency Ministerial Conference on Palestine, the senior UN official pointed out that although Israel's crimes have been systematically carried out for decades against Palestine, the current reality shows in an even more stark way the excessive violence and the flagrant violations of all types of law and law.

“Now we see that impunity remains rhetorical, as it is not punished with concrete actions. This impunity has led to the current reality, which is apocalyptic for the people of Gaza, in the occupied West Bank, in the devastated Palestinian neighborhoods, while the violence of Israeli settlers continues,” said Albanese.

The rapporteur said that the international community has historically limited itself to condemning in a “rhetorical” way the occupations of Palestinian territory, which have gone from about 80 in the 1990s to more than 300 today.

“Over the decades, the expansion of settlers, extrajudicial killings, torture, arrests, forms of collective punishment against Palestinians have been condemned, but without concrete actions,” he said

He also explained that the current situation in Palestine “is unacceptable”, because it is “a genocide” against the Palestinian people, who also bear “the traces of the international community” due to their inaction, which in turn “erodes the multilateral system” of which the countries are part.
