The National Experimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE) joined the commemoration of the centenary of the birth of the Venezuelan composer Modesto Bor with a discussion that brought together leading musicians, researchers and academics to reflect on the validity of her work and her contribution to national culture.

The activity, held at the Anna Julia Rojas Hall of UNEARTE, in Caracas, was part of the National Choir Festival and marked the beginning of the “Unearte in Dialogue” cycle, in which renowned Venezuelan music teachers such as Federico Ruiz, Beatriz Bilbao, Efraín Arteaga, Domingo Sánchez Bor, Iris Estrada, Miguel Octavio Flores and Luis Ernesto Gómez participated.

During the day, the speakers highlighted the artistic, human and pedagogical dimension of Modesto Bor, considered one of the most influential composers in contemporary Venezuelan music.

In this regard, the son of the honoree, Domingo Sánchez Bor, assured that his mother's work maintains a growing presence on international stages. “Now is when her work is being sung and played worldwide,” she said, noting that academic research, doctoral theses and specialized studies continue to deepen the composer's legacy .

For her part, teacher Beatriz Bilbao evoked the human quality and training capacity of Bor, whom she defined as an exceptional teacher. At the same time, he recalled that his classes were characterized by discipline, but also by creative freedom and closeness with his students.

“Happy birthday, Modesto! Finally we are celebrating. An entire country recognizes his life and becomes aware of his legacy, as deep and immense as the sea,” said Bilbao.

In addition, the composer Federico Ruiz emphasized that Modesto Bor's music represents essential values of Venezuelan identity . At the same time, he specified that proof of this is that each interpretation of his works connects the public with “the best of the collective soul of the Venezuelan people.”

In addition, all the specialists agreed that the legacy of Modesto Bor transcends the musical field to become a cultural and human reference that continues to inspire new generations of creators.

At the close of the event, the rector of UNEARTE, Ignacio Barreto, reiterated the call for the Modesto Bor Centennial Student Composition Competition (1926-2026), aimed at young composers in the country. In turn, he reported that applications remain open and that the winning works will be released during the month of December.
