The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) this week denounced the Israeli Zionist Army for murdering or injuring more than 50,000 Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip since October 2023.
The UNICEF regional director for the Middle East and North Africa, Edouard Beigbeder, questioned: "How many more children will die? What level of horror must they experience before the international community steps up, uses its influence and takes steps to force an end to this ruthless murder of children?”
In a statement, the official called on all “parties to the conflict to end violence, protect civilians, including children (...) allow the immediate provision of humanitarian aid and release all hostages.”
“Children in Gaza need protection, food, water and medicine, as well as a ceasefire,” he stressed. “But more than anything, they need immediate collective action to stop this once and for all,” he stressed.
Beigbeder exemplified the recent murder of nine children of a Palestinian doctor who was between two and 12 years old. “On Friday, we saw videos of the bodies of the burned and dismembered children of the al-Najjar family who were removed from the rubble of their home in (the city of) Khan Younis,” he said.
“Those lives, which should never be reduced to numbers, are now part of a long and heartbreaking list of unimaginable horrors,” he lamented. The UNICEF executive highlighted that since the end of the ceasefire on March 18, more than 1,300 children have lost their lives and another 3,738 have been injured in that territory.
