The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has issued an urgent report on the devastating impact of the intensification of Israeli Zionist bombings on Lebanese territory. Agency statistics reveal that, over the past week, an average of eleven children have been killed or injured every 24 hours.
The organization also assured that a total of 55 minors have died and 212 injured since the fragile agreement to cease hostilities was declared.
The military escalation, including the ground incursion by Israeli troops beyond the Litani River, has aggravated the humanitarian crisis in the south of the country. The destruction of homes and mosques in peripheral areas of Beirut and Nabatieh has forced thousands of families to leave their homes in search of protection, causing the collapse of essential services in the north of the country.
In the absence of operational infrastructure, the authorities have found it necessary to convert public schools into makeshift camps to house the displaced. This situation has interrupted access to education for thousands of children and has jeopardized the stability of the national school system, exacerbating the precariousness of those fleeing violence.
United Nations experts warned of the profound and lasting psychological consequences that this systematic siege will leave on the development of an entire generation of Lebanese citizens.
As the humanitarian situation deteriorates, various Lebanese political sectors have demanded the revision of the terms of the security negotiations, given the impossibility of containing the ongoing military offensive.
