The Democratic senator for the state of Connecticut, Chris Murphy, attacked the decision of US President Donald Trump to attack three nuclear facilities in Iran this Sunday, calling it “illegal”.
“Donald Trump, a weak and dangerously reckless president, has set the United States on the path of a war in the Middle East that the country doesn't want, the law doesn't allow it, and our security doesn't require it,” the legislator wrote in X.
In this regard, as reported by the RT agency, he accused the president of not knowing “anything” about history. “History tells us that U.S. arrogance about the effectiveness of military action in the Middle East is almost universally wrong,” he said.
“Trump has been incited to these attacks by the eternal promoters of the war in the Middle East: those who know how to start conflicts there, but who never know how to end them, and those who benefit — politically and financially — from endless wars,” the senator stressed.
Murphy also assured that Trump is lying about the alleged threat posed by the Persian country to Washington. “I have been informed of intelligence: there is no evidence that Iran represents an imminent threat to the United States. That makes this attack illegal,” he said, adding in another message that “Iran was not close to building a nuclear weapon” and “the negotiations that Israel threw to the ground with its attacks had a chance of success.”
Finally, he called on the Congress of the North American country to “vote as soon as possible on a law that explicitly denies President Trump authorization” to drag the United States into a conflict in the Middle East that “could cost the lives of countless Americans and waste trillions of dollars.”
