USA: Judge rules in favor of Venezuelans deported to El Salvador

The judge of the United States (USA), James Boasberg ruled this Wednesday that hundreds of Venezuelans deported to El Salvador under a wartime law of the 18th century should have the opportunity to challenge their arrests, and the Donald Trump administration must facilitate legal challenges.

In his ruling, Boasberg explained that individuals were deported without adequate notification or the right to challenge their expulsions. “That process, which was unduly denied to them, must now be granted to them,” he said.

At the same time, he added that “without this relief, the Government could kidnap anyone, hand them over to a foreign country and, in practice, prevent any corrective measures.”
