The Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, represented by the director of the Office for Europe, Omar Berroterán, accompanied the ambassador of the Russian Federation accredited to Caracas, Sergey Melik-Bagdasarov, to place a floral offering to the monument of the Russian poet, Aleksander Pushkin, erected in the “Ezequiel Zamora” Park, on the occasion of the Day of the Russian Diplomatic Worker.

“The Venezuelan and Russian diplomats have something in common: patriotism. To be a good diplomat, you must first be a patriot, deeply love your country, your history, your cultural heritage,” said Berroterán, stressing that in the current geopolitical context, a fierce battle is being waged for sovereignty and independence through diplomacy.

During the solemn ceremony, Berroterán and Melik-Bagdasarov - amidst the glorious notes of the national anthems of their respective peoples - symbolically ratified Russian-Venezuelan cooperation, which is strategic and based on a solid foundation of coincidental positions on the fundamental issues of the emerging polycentric world order, on the mutual desire to strengthen commercial, economic and cultural ties, as well as on a broad legal system.

“Diplomacy, at all times, has had as its main objective to preserve peace in a world characterized by instability, confrontation and increasing pressure on sovereign States, so diplomacy is a daily and responsible work aimed at resolving conflicts and building trusting friendships and keeping the channels of dialogue open”, defined the Russian ambassador, referring to the fact that Pushkin is a “universal figure of Russian culture, a great poet and thinker who worked in the foreign affairs tuition, actively participating in the diplomatic area of his time”.

The diplomat specified that Russian-Venezuelan relations, in the current convulsive geopolitical context, are clinging to and based on Bolivarian Peace Diplomacy, considering that compromise is the essence of the existence of humanity.

“Russia and Venezuela have developed a relationship based on equality, mutual respect and cooperation. In difficult times, our countries have reaffirmed their commitment to international law, dialogue and the peaceful resolution of disputes,” he added, accompanied by the Minister Counselor of the Russian Embassy, Eduard Sokolov and the Ambassadors of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Abkhazia in Caracas, Dzmitry Dzeravinski and Zaur Konstantinovich Gvadzhava, respectively.

Every February 10, Diplomatic Worker's Day is celebrated in Russia, a holiday that celebrates the professional work of the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Eurasian nation and their representatives abroad. The date was established by presidential decree on October 31, 2002, in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Russian Chancellery.
