Venezuela and ASEAN Committee discuss this year's agenda of activities

The heads of mission of the embassies/consulates of the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which make up the ASEAN Committee Caracas: Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia, Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Honorary Consulate of Thailand, held a meeting this Tuesday with the new Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, Andrea Corao Faria, at the “Antonio José de Sucre” Yellow House, with the primary objective of addressing the agenda of the Committee's activities for the current year 2026.
During the meeting, the ambassadors of Vietnam, Vu Trung My, and Indonesia, Fikry Cassidy; the honorary consul of Thailand, Oscar de Guruceaga; and the chargé d'affaires of Malaysia, Shalihin bin Annuar (who chairs the Committee this year 2026), congratulated the Deputy Minister for her recent appointment.
For his part, Corao assured that it is a priority to increase and strengthen the existing friendly relationship with ASEAN, while advancing cooperation mechanisms in all areas of mutual interest.
The assembled authorities highlighted a rich agenda of social activities to be carried out during the current year 2026, including a bowling tournament organized by the ASEAN embassies with the participation of representatives of the embassies of friendly countries (China, Japan, South Korea, among others), to be held at the end of this month, with the aim of promoting cultural and sporting exchange between nations.
ASEAN is comprised of 10 member countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Founded in 1967, this organization promotes economic, political and sociocultural cooperation in the region. East Timor (Timor-Leste) officially became the 11th member country of ASEAN on October 26, 2025, during the 47th Summit held in Malaysia.
