Venezuela and Russia sign Cooperation and Strategic Partnership Agreement

This Wednesday, May 07, the
President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir
Putin, signed the Agreement on Cooperation and Strategic Partnership for the next 10 years between
the two nations.
After holding a
large meeting in the Kremlin, both leaders proceeded to sign this
agreement, which addresses issues of great importance such as finance, hydrocarbons, air
connections, technology, military and security cooperation, among others.
In addition, the
agreement proposes the consolidation of independent
financial infrastructure, joint investments in oil, gas and mining and the
opening of a greater number of air routes between the two nations.
Greater coordination is also proposed with the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries
(OPEC), and with the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries. In turn, they plan
to build a ground station in Venezuela for the global
navigation system, Glonass, and expand space cooperation between the two
nations.
In addition, they plan to strengthen
alliances in health, medicine and vaccines; combined with greater scientific
and technological innovation; as well as strengthening ties in security, defense and
technical-military cooperation.
Since 2019, Venezuela and Russia have strengthened their relations of cooperation and friendship, signing more than 350 agreements and carrying out 18 joint commissions.
