The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, met this Tuesday with the ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Abdullah Muhammad Al Saihani, to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation.

From his Telegram channel, the Venezuelan diplomat stressed that they also talked about the “next celebration of the joint commission, designed to further expand” the “areas of collaboration”.

Al Saihani, on behalf of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohamed bin Salmán, delivered letters of congratulations to the Foreign Minister to Venezuela for the re-election of Nicolás Maduro as President of the Republic, “wishing him great success” and to the friendly people of Venezuela , “continued progress and prosperity”.

On September 28, during the 79th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), in New York, Gil met with his counterpart from Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, and they reaffirmed the firm position of the parties to consolidate political, diplomatic and energy cooperation.

Diplomatic relations between Caracas and Riyadh were established in 1952, based on solidarity, mutual respect and cooperation. In 1960, both nations, in recognition of their potential in the oil market and to guarantee fair and stable prices, founded the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), together with Iraq, Iran and Kuwait.

Starting in 1999, with the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela, Commander Hugo Chávez advanced relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to a new stage of understanding. It was on the basis of this precept that in 2015 the First Joint High-Level Commission between Venezuela and Saudi Arabia was held and to date the parties have signed several multilateral and bilateral agreements that draw up a road map for development under a win-win vision.
