The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs,
Yván Gil, met this Friday with his counterpart from the Republic of Suriname, Melvin
Bouva, who is visiting the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to
strengthen the ties of cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
Through his Telegram channel, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister
expressed his honor for receiving his Surinamese counterpart, at the Casa Amarilla Antonio José de Sucre, and stressed that his visit to
Caracas “is of the utmost importance” for both nations, “since it leads us to
strengthen cooperation between our neighboring peoples in various areas,
including diplomatic, commercial, agricultural, cultural and others that may result in mutual benefits”.
After arriving in the Venezuelan capital, Bouva began an
intense work schedule that marks a milestone in the relaunch of diplomatic
relations between the two nations, in which it represents the first high-level
approach under the administration of President Jennifer
Geerlings-Simons, who took office in July 2012.
The Caribbean diplomat leads a technical delegation that
will be deployed in working groups to make progress in fishing, agriculture and foreign
trade, with the central objective of boosting
commercial exchange and establishing a road map to promote transport and tourism between the two countries.
