Venezuela complained to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the deployment of extraregional military force in the Caribbean, which violates the principles and norms of the United Nations Charter.

The permanent representative of Venezuela to the OPCW, Ambassador Héctor Constant Rosales, during his speech, warned of the multiple threats that exist today in the world, encouraged by a hegemonic conception of international relations, which entail a new risk of an arms race with unpredictable consequences and reproduce a scenario that must call for urgent reflection.

In a review published on the website of the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs (MPPRE), Constant Rosales emphasized the unusual deployment of extraregional military force in the Caribbean Sea, which raises serious doubts about its true motivation and violates the principles and norms of the United Nations Charter.

“This danger has been condemned and warned by numerous national and multilateral actors, such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the BRICS and the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (MNOAL), among others, who have rejected such military threats, supporting the existence of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace decreed in 2014 and, in particular, Venezuela's right to peace and development,” he said.

He ratified Venezuela's support for the statement presented by the Ugandan delegation, on behalf of the MNOAL plus China, in which it expresses deep concern regarding the deployment of military forces in the Caribbean.

It also denounced the openly genocidal action of Israel in Palestine and the use of chemical substances by the armies of the occupying Power, while reiterating the condemnation of the aggression of Israeli forces against the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Qatar, as constituting a flagrant violation of International Law and the Charter of the United Nations.

These statements were offered as part of the 110th Session of the organization's Executive Council, held from October 07 to 10 at the headquarters building of the OPCW, located in The Hague, Kingdom of the Netherlands.
