The foreign minister, Yván Gil, made statements to the media to alert the international community to the effects caused by the oil spill from Trinidad and Tobago.

On behalf of the Bolivarian Government, Gil insisted “on the responsibility of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and the companies that live in the region, so he assured that Venezuela will demand the corresponding compensation in the case.

From the Yellow House Antonio José de Sucre, the head of the Bolivarian Peace Diplomacy rejected the lack of communication on the part of the island's authorities, adding that according to international conventions, Venezuela should be notified about the incident and even about what material it was dealing with.

“We do not know their origin, volume and type of hydrocarbons,” he said, describing as “serious not only the occurrence of the spill itself, but also the lack of information. The Government of Trinidad is required to provide information based on international conventions.”

In that regard, he pointed out that this fact has an economic, environmental and food impact on the Bolivarian nation.

Gil highlighted the work of Venezuelan State institutions to address the situation, including the Ministry for Ecosocialism, the National Institute of Aquatic Spaces (INEA), the Ministry of Fisheries and the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB).
