The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela informs the national and international community of the occurrence of a new hydrocarbon spill from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, reaffirmed by satellite images. This event exceeds in magnitude the one that occurred in May and confirms the movement of pollutants into Venezuelan waters, with risks to marine ecosystems, fishing activity and coastal communities.

Faced with this situation, the competent bodies of the Venezuelan State have activated the necessary monitoring and mitigation protocols to protect the affected coasts.

Venezuela demands that the Government of Trinidad and Tobago fully assume its responsibility, taking immediate measures to prevent new incidents and ensuring full transparency about the causes, extent and consequences of this spill. It also reserves the right to take appropriate action before the competent international bodies to determine responsibilities, to demand compensation as appropriate and to prevent the repetition of similar events.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reaffirms its unavoidable commitment to the protection of the environment, life and the defense of its marine spaces.
