Venezuela expresses condolences to Vietnam for tragic shipwreck in Ha Long Bay

The Minister of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Yvan Gil, reported that the Government of Venezuela expresses its sincerest condolences to the People and the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the human losses in the wreck of the ferry in Ha Long Bay.

“We convey our words of solidarity to the families and relatives of the victims, and we send sincere recognition to the search and rescue efforts carried out by the authorities of the sister nation of Vietnam,” Gil said through his Telegram channel.

The tragic accident occurred Saturday afternoon when the Wonder Sea ferry, carrying 53 passengers (48 passengers and five crew members, all Vietnamese), suddenly capsized in the middle of a storm near Ha Long Bay.

So far, authorities have confirmed the death of 34 people, including nine children, and the rescue of 11 alive, while eight are missing. The rescue operation involves more than 300 people, 27 boats and specialized divers due to adverse weather conditions resulting from the approach of Cyclone Wipha.
