The Venezuelan wrestling team will participate this Friday and Saturday in the U-17 World Beach Wrestling Championship, which is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan, as part of the preparation of Venezuelan athletes for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
The national team will be composed of pre-juvenile referents Haniel Rodríguez and Esther Oyola, under the direction of coach Héctor Luis Camacho, who explained that the competition is strategic for adding points to the universal ranking of the World Wrestling Union (UWW) and obtaining better positions in the draws of international events, reported the Ministry of Sport.
Camacho stressed that the tournament will allow young people to adapt to the beach modality, which will be implemented in the African youth event: “The Youth Olympic Games will take place from October 31 to November 13, so being present at this global event allows us to measure our athletes and carry out technical and methodological analyses, in addition to the ratification of the Olympic quotas and the evaluation of the possible rivals we will find in Africa”.
The coach added that the Venezuelan Olympic Wrestling Federation is confident that the discipline and perseverance of the national representatives will make it possible to achieve a podium in Dakar 2026.
