Venezuela is moving towards the digitalization and automation of the tourism sector with the use of technology and artificial intelligence (AI), with the purpose of positioning itself as a competitive destination in the region and the world.
Within this framework, the Tech & Travel event: Transforming Tourism with Artificial Intelligence was held in Caracas, organized by the Higher Tourism Council (CONSETURISM) in partnership with the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), with the participation of service providers, academics and technology experts, as part of the training agenda for World Tourism Day, according to a press release from VTV.
During her speech, the Minister of Popular Power for Tourism, Daniella Cabello, said that the objective is for those who visit the country to find the destination they are looking for within reach of the telephone. “We have to see technology and artificial intelligence as a tool that will accompany us to grow, to show ourselves to the world as a strong destination, with infrastructure ready to receive and open to foreign investment,” he said.
Cabello clarified that this transformation does not involve dehumanizing the sector. “We want to use artificial intelligence to keep human beings at the center of tourism, because that's what we are,” he said, inviting businessmen and entrepreneurs to adapt to the new digital era. “Venezuelans know how to turn challenges into opportunities,” he added.
For her part, technology journalist Meibel Di Martino showed how AI affects the sector's profitability. “Travel agencies that automate their primary care with artificial intelligence reduce response times from six hours to less than 30 seconds,” he said, stressing that “53% of travelers abandon a purchase if they don't receive a response within the first 10 minutes.”
