The World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) published its updated ranking, where Japan is confirmed as the leader thanks to its performance in the U-23 World Cup and the continental qualifiers of 2026.
The Asian nation maintains the number one position with a total of 3,128 points, after being crowned world champion in the U-23 category. However, the competition at the top has intensified, as the current monarchs face constant pressure from their closest international diamond stalker, Venezuela, which has firmly established itself in second place with 2,797 points, managing to reduce the gap with Japan to only 331 units.
This historic rise of the national team is the product of remarkable consistency, driven by their bronze medal in the Pan American Championship and a solid fifth place in the recent Under-23 World Cup event.
