The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, led this Friday in The Hague a new day of defense before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in order to expose the historical foundations that support Venezuelan sovereignty over the Essequibo.
The national delegation participated in this three-hour session to demonstrate to the world that the Geneva Agreement of 1966 is the only valid legal instrument to resolve the dispute. This action seeks to stop the unilateral judgment promoted by Guyana and to reaffirm the territorial position of the Venezuelan State.
“Exercising our right to defense, but to show the world to Venezuela, really all the elements that support the historic position,” said Foreign Minister Gil, explaining the purpose of this appearance.
The minister emphasized that the presence of the delegation responds to the need to protect the interests of the nation, using the international platform to dismiss arguments that seek to ignore the legally established border treaties between the parties.
The diplomatic agenda will continue next Monday, May 11, when Venezuela will have its main turn to develop the second phase of technical and legal arguments. In this block, which will also last three hours, the Bolivarian team will delve into the tests that invalidate external claims over the disputed territory.
The authorities have been emphatic that this participation does not grant the court automatic jurisdiction, but rather acts as a defensive barrier in defense of the integrity of the national map.
The official press team and the diplomatic delegation confirmed that they will maintain a constant flow of information to inform the country about the progress of this process in Europe.
The Bolivarian Government reiterates that direct dialogue remains the ideal way for a practical and satisfactory solution. Meanwhile, Venezuela is preparing for Monday, considered a key point in this legal battle for historical justice and respect for the sovereignty of Guiana Essequiba.
