The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, through an official statement, reported the kidnapping by U.S. authorities of the two-year-old Venezuelan girl Maikelys Antonella Espinoza Bernal, who was separated from her mother when she was starting a repatriation flight to the nation.
Below is the full text of the statement:
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela denounces to the world the kidnapping by U.S. authorities of the two-year-old Venezuelan girl Maikelys Antonella Espinoza Bernal, who was separated from her mother when she was starting a repatriation flight to Venezuela, and like so many violations of the rights of our migrants and in contravention of international norms and especially the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child and the Charter of the United Nations, are once again committing the very serious file of separating families and removing a minor from their emotional environment and especially from their biological mother.
As an unacceptable corollary to this, we also denounce that the father of the girl Maikellys Espinoza was kidnapped and sent, without any trial or court action, to the concentration camp that the satrap of Bukele built in El Salvador, in a modern representation of the death trains that carried Jews to the Nazi death camps in Eastern Europe during the Second World War.
In this despicable practice, and in the face of the indignant gaze of good women and men around the world, human beings are subjected to undignified and cruel treatment, families are separated and Venezuelan citizens are sent to concentration camps in third countries of complicit governments and lackeys, in contravention of any elementary practice of due process and the rule of law. Quite the contrary, the only thing they blame our compatriots, under the opprobious applause of the fascists of the Venezuelan extreme right, who gloat in crimes against humanity against our people, is that they were born in our homeland and are objects of infamy that invent non-existent threats against the security of the United States.
Venezuela will resort to all legal, political, diplomatic and multilateral action mechanisms, so that the sacred integrity of our families is respected and international laws are complied with so that the infant Maikellys Antonella Espinoza Bernal is returned safely to her country to be reunited with her mother and family, from which she should never have been separated in a clear act of extreme violence that is absolutely unacceptable and unthinkable well into the 21st century.
We demand the immediate return of Maikellys to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and that the rule of law and the elementary prerogatives that our little girl has be restored, as established in the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child: “right to life, survival and development; to identity; to family; to equality and non-discrimination; to education; to health; to recreation and recreation; and to protection against abuse, exploitation and violence”.
